James Roday + Dule Hill = Psych FTW!

  • I do not enjoy watching the shows that are on television, because, let's face it, they are pretty bad. Lost (when it was still on), The Big Bang Theory, and Two and a Half Men is/was about all I will observe. The abundance of reality shows is the biggest turn off, and I am constantly amazed by the ridiculous followings they hold. 99% of that shit is staged--aside from maybe American Idle, and shows of that sort--and the acting is overdone and pathetic. (I have lost track of how many Survivor shows have been aired; I really thought it ended after its third season).

Now, let us get into my favorite show on the boob tube...."Psych." The synopsis, courtesy of USA Network, is as so:

PSYCH is a quick-witted comedy/drama starring James Roday as young police consultant Shawn Spencer who solves crimes with powers of observation so acute that Santa Barbara PD detectives think he’s psychic.

Psych also stars Dulé Hill as Shawn's best friend and reluctant sidekick, Gus, and Corbin Bernsen as his disapproving father, Henry, who ironically was the one who honed his son's "observation" skills as a child. Also featured are Timothy Omundson, Maggie Lawson and Kirsten Nelson.

James Roday (Shawn Spencer) and Dule Hill (Burton "Gus" Guster) are easily the catalyst (along with good writing, and interesting cases of course) of the show. The two have great chemistry together, and their delivery (especially Roday) with comedic elements is near perfect.

The rest of the cast carry their own weight, but the performances of Roday and Hill continue to outshine--and impress me--with every show. The last show I enjoyed this much was "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air."

I will let that last bit process for a minute..........got it? Good.

Yes, I am talking about the show that launched Will Smith into stardom. Fresh Prince closed shop back in 96'; which means it has been about 14 years since I have enjoyed a show in its entirety. That is a decent little time frame, and it sorely disappoints me that it has taken this long for a show, of Fresh Prince caliber (still my all-time favorite show), to air.

My opinion, however, is a little biased on this situation. There was a period (about the years 2000-2007) where I did not watch much television, so I am sure there were numerous shows I missed. I am over it though; I had school and sports to worry about during that time frame.

Psych is on every Wednesday at 10/9C, so mark your calenders, set your cell phones, or put a post-it note on your TV for all I care. Start supporting this show, and maybe, just maybe, we can start getting some more original concepts to come along down the road. *Crosses fingers*

Because I am a nice guy, here are some "Best of" moments from the show (blame hulu for the pre-video advertisements)....enjoy!
